STEVEN E. SHUMER, ESQ.

Steven E. Shumer, Esq., graduated from Brandeis University (Cum Laude) in 1989 and went on to earn his Juris Doctor Degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1992, where he was a member of the Hofstra University Labor Law Journal.

Upon graduation,  Mr. Shumer  began his career at a  general practice law firm located in Nassau County.  He remained there for eleven successful years, working his way up from an associate to managing attorney. In 2002, Mr. Shumer opened his own firm, which soon began to flourish.  As his client following and reputation quickly grew, Mr. Shumer joined practice with the Law Firm of  Steinberg, Fineo, Berger and Fischoff, P.C., in 2003.  With this decision, Mr. Shumer was able to offer his clientele an experienced team of over twenty attorneys and over fifteen support staff to compliment his own specific qualities and skills.

Through his nearly two decades practicing law, Mr. Shumer has concentrated his areas of practice in matrimonial/divorce law, family law and bankruptcy law.  He has handled hundreds, if not thousands of divorce/separation actions, from the simplest of uncontested proceedings to some of the most complex trial matters addressing issues from custody and support to litigations involving multi-million dollar asset distribution. Similarly, his work in the family law arena has covered everything from custody, support and visitation cases to orders of protection, relocation and even cases of child abduction.  The firm is also known and respected as one of the premier bankruptcy practices on Long Island, representing both debtors and creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy from Chapter 7 and 13 to Chapter 11 filings.

Mr. Shumer's association with the firm of Steinberg, Fineo, Berger & Fischoff, P.C., allows Mr. Shumer to also offer his clients experienced representation in areas such as real estate, civil litigation, corporations, landlord-tenant, criminal, personal injury and other areas of general practice.

Mr. Shumer is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association and was admitted to the Bars of the State of New York and Connecticut ultimately settling his practice in New York.  Mr. Shumer has authored a monthly legal information column published in over 25 local newspapers across Long Island.  He lives on Long Island with his wife and two children.
